A new kind of therapy center

So I’ve decided to open a private practice. First off, let me back up. I’ve decided to move back to Austin! Wait, let me back up again. Who am I and why should you care about any of this?

I’m a therapist. Not a massage or physical therapist. I’m a licensed counselor to be exact. I say things like “How does that make you feel” for a living. Well sort of, but I try to make it a little more exciting than that. For you see, kind blog readers, I am also a comedy performer. I’ve been doing improv and sketch comedy at Second City and iO in Chicago the last couple years.

But I’m also a Texan and a UT Longhorn at heart, and the time has come for me to return to my favorite place in the world: Austin, Texas. I lived in Austin back in the glory days of 1998 to 2004.

After working at behavioral hospitals for years in Texas and Illinois, I’ve decided to finally follow my dream of opening a unique private practice that incorporates laughter therapy and humor into one’s overall wellness.

Laughter is such an important part of my life, I thought there are probably a lot of other people who feel the same way. People who pride themselves on their sense of humor and creativity. People who like Mr. Show, Louis CK, UCB, Key & Peele, and Splitsider as much as I do. I thought there should be a place for people like us who might want to sit down and talk with a helpful, knowledgeable mental health professional.

I wanted to create a place where like-minded people could feel welcomed and receive the non-judgmental, therapeutic help they need.

That place is Upside Wellness. I’ll be honest: Right now, Upside Wellness is just me. It’s admittedly a small, humble operation, but with time, hard work, and a few loyal clients I hope my clinic can grow and evolve into something truly great. Perhaps with your help, we can do that together.
